Awards

The Coach Millard Robinson Memorial Fund was created by players, students and family members who were mentored by Coach Robinson in the important qualities of life - love of country, sportsmanship and humanitarianism. The Fund shall serve to perpetuate his spirit and inspiration that helped to make many of his students and players significant contributors to society.

The goals of the fund are first, to perpetuate Coach Robinson's name and memory for all of us for whom his spirit, energy, knowledge and dedication mean so much; and second, to award citizen/athletes recognized for their responsibility and achievements as athletes, citizens and humanitarians. In keeping with these goals, each year, the fund will provide for the presentation of the following awards:

The Coach Millard Robinson Memorial Citizen-Athlete Scholarship

    A Citizen-Athlete Scholarship shall be awarded annually to a deserving member of the senior class of Strath Haven High School in the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District.

    Purpose:
    "To recognize annually the Strath Haven High School senior who best characterizes those values and qualities exemplified by the life and career of Coach Millard "Robbie" Robinson."

    Millard Robinson was about people. Whether working with students or adults, coaching, teaching or community and civic involvement, he put his full energy and enthusiasm into the task. He had a "passion" for whatever he was involved in - he truly had an enthusiasm for life.

    The Memorial Fund shall serve to perpetuate Coach's spirit and inspiration that helped to make many of his students and players significant contributors to society. Thus, recipients of the Scholarship shall be recognized for responsibility and achievements as athletes, as citizens and as students.

    Eligibility:
    Recipients shall:

    • be a resident of the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District. However, tuition students may be considered;
    • be a senior student at Strath Haven High School;
    • demonstrate civic, academic and athletic involvement; and
    • have been accepted by a four-year, two-year, or other institution of higher learning.

    Criteria:
    This scholarship will recognize outstanding value and contribution to community, school, and athletics. The recipient shall demonstrate, by behavior and performance, inspiration, perseverance, dedication, cooperation, fair play and sportsmanship.

    The recipient does not have to be the star of the team; does not have to be an honor student and does not have to participate in countless community agencies and activities. This award is meant to recognize a student who brings passion and enthusiasm to athletic participation, academics and community involvement. Millard Robinson's mantra was "Get involved and do your best. Give back to the community and your country."

    To that end, recipients shall:

    • demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to community, academics and athletics;
    • exhibit the qualities of "playing by the rules;"
    • demonstrate a true passion for his/her endeavors;
    • try his/her best, no matter the task at hand;
    • have the respect of his/her fellow students and faculty;
    • be self-motivated. Gets involved because of his/her own volition - not just to please others; and
    • exhibit qualities of guidance and leadership.

    THE FUND AND ITS BOARD OF DIRECTORS HAS WORKED HAND-IN-HAND WITH THE PRINCIPAL, VICE PRINCIPALS AND GUIDANCE COUNSELORS OF STRATH HAVEN HIGH SCHOOL, TO IMPLEMENT THIS AWARD. THE FIRST COACH MILLARD ROBINSON SCHOLARSHIP AWARD WAS PRESENTED ON TUESDAY, MAY 20, 2003.

The Coach Millard Robinson Memorial Award for Outstanding Value and Contribution

    Selected by the Delaware County Football Coaches' Association

    To be awarded annually to the Delaware County football player who best characterizes those values and qualities exemplified by the life and career of Coach Millard "Robbie" Robinson

    This award will be presented for outstanding value and contribution to his team and the great game of football. The recipient shall demonstrate by his behavior and performance during practice and on game day . . . Inspiration . . . Perseverance . . . Dedication . . . Cooperation . . . Fair Play and Sportsmanship.

    He may not have set any records or be the biggest and/or fastest but what he has given to and shared with his fellow players on the athletic field has made them richer for the experience and a better team.

    (This is not meant to eliminate a player who has set records and is outstanding in his own right. We are looking for a contribution beyond the scoreboard.)
